At Fruitomed, we celebrate the exceptional benefits of Quebec's super fruits.

Elderberrry

Sambucus canadensis

Elderberries are small edible fruits naturally rich in vitamins A, B6, and C, as well as fiber, minerals, and polyphenols. They grow in clusters on a majestic shrub that blooms for about four weeks in July and produces its dark purple, almost black berries in September.

Although elderberry grows wild in Quebec, Fruitomed favours cultivars selected specifically for fruit production by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, offering superior quality and an optimized polyphenol profile.

Delicious in taste, elderberries are nonetheless demanding to harvest and process. Their small size, comparable to that of the wild blueberry, along with the presence of their stem and seed, makes cleaning them more complex.

At Fruitomed, the elderberries grown by our partner producers are harvested entirely by hand in order to select only healthy fruit that is perfectly ripe and naturally rich in antioxidants. The fruit ripens directly on the shrub and is carefully picked by experienced staff. To ensure optimal quality, clusters that are soiled, damaged, or have touched the ground are systematically set aside. This rigorous approach preserves the integrity of the fruit and provides an exceptional raw material at the heart of our formulas.

Cranberry

Vaccinium macrocarpon

The cranberry is a perennial plant of the Ericaceae family that grows naturally in peat bogs. It is mainly cultivated on sandy soils composed of more than 90% sand, an ideal environment for its growth.

Over the past few decades, the cranberry has grown in popularity thanks to its many recognized health properties. Since the 1980s, several studies have shown that its active compounds, particularly type-A proanthocyanidins (PACs), have an anti-adhesion action that helps limit the attachment of certain bacteria to the walls of the urinary tract.

Centre-du-Québec is a key region for cranberry cultivation in Quebec. About 80% of Quebec's production is concentrated there, and nearly two-thirds is also processed in the region.

At Fruitomed, we select premium-quality cranberries to preserve the full richness of their polyphenols and to provide highly concentrated natural ingredients at the heart of our formulations.

Wild blueberry

(Vaccinium angustifolium)

The wild blueberry is a small fruit native to North America, recognized for centuries for its nutritional qualities and unique taste. Traditionally harvested by Indigenous peoples, it was eaten fresh, cooked, or dried, and was notably used in the preparation of pemmican for its nutritional value and its keeping qualities.

Not to be confused with the European bilberry, the wild blueberry stands out for its small size, its intensely coloured flesh, and its naturally high concentration of polyphenols, particularly anthocyanins.

In Quebec, the wild blueberry is mainly harvested in forests and in managed blueberry fields, especially in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region, recognized worldwide for the quality of its production.

Over the past few decades, scientific interest in the wild blueberry has intensified considerably due to its exceptional richness in antioxidants. These bioactive compounds help protect cells against oxidative stress and support several essential functions of the body.

At Fruitomed, we favour the wild blueberry for its high concentration of anthocyanins and its exceptional quality, in order to offer highly active natural formulas rich in polyphenols.

Blackcurrant

(Ribes nigrum)

Blackcurrant is the fruit of the blackcurrant bush, a perennial fruiting shrub native to Europe and Northern Asia. Known for its great hardiness, it can tolerate temperatures as low as -35°C and remain productive for nearly 20 years.

Its small black berries, ranging from 10 to 15 mm in diameter, are especially valued for their exceptional nutritional profile. Blackcurrant is naturally rich in vitamin C, potassium, fibre, tannins, and polyphenols, particularly anthocyanins.

These natural pigments give it not only its characteristic dark colour, but also a strong antioxidant capacity, helping to protect cells against oxidative stress.

At Fruitomed, blackcurrant is selected for its richness in bioactive compounds and its complementary contribution of antioxidants, in order to enrich our natural formulas with high-quality ingredients.

Haskap

(Lonicera caerulea sp.)

The haskap, also known as honeyberry, is an exceptional small fruit whose Japanese name means "berry of long life and good vision." It comes from an edible honeysuckle found naturally in the wild across several regions of the Northern Hemisphere.

The varieties grown in Quebec stem from research carried out by the University of Saskatchewan, using lines originating notably from Russia, Japan, and the Kuril Islands.

Recognizable by its elongated shape, the haskap offers a unique flavour, both sweet and slightly tart, reminiscent of a blend of blackcurrant, blueberry, and raspberry.

Beyond its distinctive taste, the haskap is particularly known for its exceptional richness in anthocyanins and other polyphenols, giving it strong antioxidant potential.

At Fruitomed, we value the haskap for its high nutritional density and its remarkable concentration of bioactive compounds, in order to bring an exceptional fruit with strong health potential into our formulas.

Aronia

(Aronia melanocarpa)

Aronia is a small fruit native to eastern North America, long consumed by Indigenous peoples for its nutritional properties and traditional uses.

Nicknamed the "chokeberry" for the small crown that resembles that of an apple, aronia produces fruit similar in size to blackcurrant. The edible variety, Aronia melanocarpa, stands out for its black skin and dark red flesh.

Naturally rich in vitamin C, folic acid, and polyphenols, aronia is known for its exceptional concentration of anthocyanins and other antioxidants, helping to protect cells against oxidative stress.

Its intense, astringent flavour, often compared to that of blackcurrant, makes it a fruit particularly valued for processing. At Fruitomed, aronia is selected for its remarkable richness in bioactive compounds and its strong antioxidant potential, in order to enhance the effectiveness of our natural formulations.

Boswellia

Boswellia (Boswellia serrata), also known as Indian frankincense, is a resin from a tree native to India, used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine. It is recognized for its active compounds, the boswellic acids, particularly AKBA, which are studied for their role in joint comfort and mobility.

Lutein & Zeaxanthin

Lutein and zeaxanthin are two carotenoids of the xanthophyll family that the body cannot produce: they must come from the diet (leafy greens, corn, egg yolk). They are nicknamed the "macular carotenoids" because they concentrate in the macula of the retina, where they filter blue light and act as antioxidants, helping to protect the eyes from oxidative stress.

Bovine Collagen

Bovine collagen is a structural protein extracted from bovine sources, rich in amino acids such as glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline. It mainly provides type I and type III collagen, the most abundant types in skin, bones, tendons, and connective tissues. In its hydrolyzed form (peptides), it is more easily absorbed by the body and is recognized for its role in supporting the health of skin, joints, and connective tissues.

MSM

MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) is a naturally occurring organosulfur compound, in other words an organic source of sulfur. It is found in trace amounts in several foods (fruits, vegetables, grains) and is naturally present in the body. The sulfur it provides is an essential component of connective tissues, where it contributes to the structure of collagen. MSM is one of the most studied supplements for joint comfort, often combined with collagen, glucosamine, or chondroitin.
